A young actress must find her voice in a theater production that claims feminism while her own boundaries are challenged.

The story

Ela, a 24-year-old inexperienced actress from Berlin, wins her first leading role as Lulu in a new theater production led by prominent director Franz Kramer. The opportunity brings intense pressure as she works alongside established actors. Although Kramer presents the production as feminist, its team is predominantly men, and Ela’s own perspective and interpretation of Lulu begin to disappear within the process. When Kramer sexually harasses her, Ela tries to assert herself and set boundaries while developing Lulu into a self-assured character. The conflict challenges her to connect the self-assertion she seeks for Lulu with changes in her own life.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The young, inexperienced actress Ela (24) from Berlin lands her first leading role, playing Lulu in a new theater production by the prominent director Franz Kramer (42). The project is a major opportunity for Ela, and the pressure to perform among the other well-known actors is enormous. Kramer markets the play as feminist, even though the team is made up predominantly of men. Before long, Ela’s own perspective as a woman, and her take on the role, begin to get lost. The situation comes to a head when Kramer sexually harasses her. Ela tries to stand up for herself, set boundaries, and at the same time develop Lulu as a self-assured character. But this will only be possible if she takes the same steps toward self-empowerment in her own life.
