Five former detainees speak about life after their forced expulsion from Switzerland.

The story

One year after their forced expulsion from Switzerland, five former detainees from the film Special Flight—Wandifa, a rapper; Ragip, a laborer; Geordry, an asylum seeker; Dia, an undocumented migrant; and Jeton, a Roma man—describe their lives after deportation. Torn from their refuge, and in some cases separated from their children, they were returned to their countries of origin. Now in Senegal, Kosovo, Gambia, or Cameroon, they face hardship: some have no resources, live in hiding, are ostracized by family, or are imprisoned on arrival. The film follows their efforts to survive and examines the consequences of deportation and migration policy.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Wandifa the rapper, Ragip the laborer, Geordry the asylum seeker, Dia the undocumented migrant, and Jeton the Roma man: five former detainees from the film Special Flight speak openly about their tragic fate, one year after their forced expulsion from Switzerland. Torn abruptly from their country of refuge—and, in some cases, from their children—because they were undocumented or had been refused asylum, they arrive handcuffed between two Swiss police officers and are handed over to the authorities in their countries of origin. After years in exile, they struggle to survive in Senegal, Kosovo, Gambia, or Cameroon, with no resources, in hiding, ostracized by their families, and sometimes even imprisoned on arrival for having “tarnished the country’s honor.” Some suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of their detention and violent expulsion. This film, which follows Special Flight—a film that exposed the conditions of detention and the heavy-handed methods used to expel undocumented foreigners in Switzerland—shows the violence of a migration policy practiced in Switzerland as well as across Europe.
