Dunkirk, the port. Alexis Marceau and his best friend, Victor Fontanel, control the port and its dockworkers through their cargo-handling company, using it to bring in and ship out illegal goods that earn them a great deal of money. Tired of these dealings, Alexis decides to sell Victor out to the authorities, working with Judge Baron, a dogged magistrate whose methods are sometimes questionable. Above all, Alexis wants to protect his wife, Anne, and their son, Jérémie, by starting a new life far from Dunkirk. But Alexis is discovered, and Victor punishes him in proportion to his crime: he burns him and shoots him in the abdomen, leaving him for dead on a cliff. Alexis survives, and after several cosmetic surgery operations, he becomes Mathias. Six years later, the judge finds Mathias at the port of Turin and offers to commute his prison sentence for criminal conspiracy if he agrees to infiltrate Victor’s company, which is about to close a major deal with the Russian, Vandernev. With his brand-new identity, and especially his knowledge of the port and its illicit dealings, Mathias infiltrates Victor’s company and gradually climbs the ranks of the port’s criminal hierarchy. But when he returns, Anne, his wife, is married to Victor, and Jérémie, his son, is following in the footsteps of his stepfather—and of his father before him...
