The story

A hired killer is waiting in a hotel room overlooking the Nice courthouse, where a key witness in a corruption trial is expected to appear. Next door, François Pignon, a press photographer neglected by his wife after she left him for a renowned neurologist, attempts suicide by hanging from the bathroom pipes, causing a flood. The killer persuades the hotel porter not to call the police and promises to watch over Pignon to prevent another attempt. As he tries to keep the depressed man safe, he becomes entangled in Pignon’s personal troubles, putting his own assignment at risk.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

(Richard Berry) is a hired killer who has to carry out his “contract” from his hotel room overlooking the Nice courthouse, where Randoni (Michel Aumont), a key witness in a corruption trial and a man marked for death, is expected. His neighbor, François Pignon (Patrick Timsit), a press photographer neglected by his wife (Virginie Ledoyen), who left him for Dr. Wolf (Pascal Elbé), a renowned neurologist, tries to kill himself by hanging from the bathroom pipes and causes a flood. Milan persuades the hotel porter not to call the police, promising to keep an eye on the depressed man himself to prevent another attempt. He then becomes irretrievably entangled in Pignon’s problems, to the detriment of his mission.
