Full plot (contains spoilers)
Fifteen-year-old Daniel Massu is a late bloomer, and he is poor at spelling, which causes him many problems. He is a student at a boarding school: his father is its headmaster and his mother its director of studies. The family lives in an apartment on the school grounds, but this year Daniel’s father decides that the teenager will sleep in the dormitory with the other students. Daniel is all the more terrified of sharing such close quarters because he knows how much his classmates regard him as privileged. To win their friendship, he takes on both his father and his mother, going so far as to organize a clandestine cooperative canteen that supplies food to students and teachers without the administrators’ knowledge. The discovery and condemnation of this cooperative sparks an almost general revolt among the students and teachers.
