Full plot (contains spoilers)
Each sketch, directed by a young filmmaker associated with the New Wave, humorously illustrates one of the seven deadly sins. Wrath: Anger takes hold of a man who has found a fly in his Sunday soup. It spreads throughout his neighborhood, his city, his country, and soon the whole world; the final image is one of all-out nuclear war... Envy: Rosette is a waitress. Envious of the actress Rita Gerly, she does everything she can to seduce her lover. Some time later, having achieved her ambitions, she returns to the inn as a customer, with her new lover at her side, showing how little enthusiasm she has for the new situation she acquired purely out of envy... Sloth: Eddie Constantine is approached by a starlet who takes him home with very definite intentions. But the hero is so lazy that virtue is preserved. Lust: Paul and Bernard search through reproductions of Hieronymus Bosch’s “The Garden of Earthly Delights” for a definition of lust. Bernard recalls his childhood, when he used to confuse lust with luxury. Pride: A woman cheats on her husband and is about to leave with her lover, but discovers that her husband has a mistress. Wounded in her pride, she decides—also out of pride—to stay with her husband so she can dominate him. Gluttony: Valentin sets off to attend the funeral of his father, who died of indigestion, but his successive feasts along the way make him arrive late for both the funeral and the meal that follows. Greed: A group of polytechnic students dream of spending a night of love with Suzon, whose rates are astronomical. To raise the necessary sum, they organize a lottery, with the lucky winner set to benefit.
