An unemployed jazz musician and his band are hired to revive music education at a Bavarian boarding school for orphaned children.

The story

At Tiefenstein Castle in Bavaria, a boarding school educates orphaned children gifted in music, with support from a foundation established by a deceased American of Bavarian descent. The school’s headmistress, Mrs. Himmelreich, has admitted more children than the finances can support, and most music teachers have been dismissed to feed them. With a trustee, Mr. Parker, due to visit, the school faces an urgent need for help. Unemployed jazz musician Peter Hagen and his band, the Syncopers, are hired to restore the children’s music education. Peter quickly endears himself to the young students and to music teacher Britta Johnsen.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Tiefenstein Castle in Bavaria houses a boarding school for orphaned children gifted in music, where they are to be trained in classical music. The institute is funded by grants from the foundation of a deceased American of Bavarian descent. However, the headmistress, Mrs. Himmelreich, has taken in too many orphans. To feed the large number of children, most of the music teachers have been dismissed. When a telegram announces a visit from Mr. Parker, one of the foundation’s trustees, the school desperately needs a savior. Unemployed jazz musician Peter Hagen is immediately hired along with his entire band, the Syncopers, to get the children’s music education back on track. Peter soon wins the hearts of his young charges, as well as that of the lovely music teacher, Britta Johnsen. When Mr. Parker finally arrives at Tiefenstein—and, to everyone’s surprise, so does Broadway star Jane Richards—the deceptions spiral out of control. But since everyone involved has only the children’s best interests at heart, a solution is found to every problem, and all ends happily.
