Full plot (contains spoilers)
Raised in a very working-class and violent environment, misunderstood by both his alcoholic, uncouth father (Grégory Gadebois) and his overwhelmed mother (Catherine Salée), young Marvin Bijou (Jules Porier) suffers from a difference that sets him apart and makes him the target of bullying by his brother and his schoolmates. With the help of the school principal (Catherine Mouchet), Marvin discovers theater and eventually asserts his decision to enter the Conservatory and pursue this passion. Marvin thus escapes his family and his village in the Vosges. By changing his identity and becoming Martin Clément, he will be able, through theater, to accept himself and flourish. As an adult (Finnegan Oldfield) in Paris, his encounters with a director whose background is similar to his own (Vincent Macaigne), a flamboyant gay man (Charles Berling), and the actress Isabelle Huppert, with whom he performs onstage, will help him shape his own destiny.
