A birthday surprise of lakeside land throws three sisters into a debate over family, home, and sacrifice.

The story

Mia, a 30-year-old single woman living in Stockholm, travels to her parents’ home in Rättvik, Dalarna, as her father approaches his 70th birthday. Her parents surprise her by offering her a valuable plot of land by the lake, carrying an unspoken expectation that she will move back home. Her older sisters, Eivor and Gunilla, receive nothing. The unequal gift ignites a family discussion about the choices and obligations that have shaped the sisters’ lives: who stayed, who cares for their parents, who left, and who has made sacrifices.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Mia, 30 and single in Stockholm, travels up to her parents in Rättvik, Dalarna, when her father is about to turn 70. They have a surprise for her: they want to give her a fairly valuable plot of land by the lake, with the unspoken expectation that she will move “home” again. Her older sisters, Eivor and Gunilla, get nothing. This sparks a discussion about who stayed, who looks after their parents, who simply left, and who has made sacrifices.
