Now 10 years old, Max has settled in at Geroldseck Castle and is friends with its residents Vera, Horst, and Kilian—the “Wild 7.” He is bullied at school, and only his friend Laura stands by him, but even their friendship is put to a severe test. In this film, his mother is away for two weeks on a training course and does not play a significant role in the story. Storyline 1: When Horst learns that Max was not selected for the school soccer team, he challenges the school team to a match against a team of retirees that he coaches, and also trains Max personally. The “Old Codgers,” joined by the head nurse and, for a time, Laura, have to weather several crises. They then narrowly lose the game because of unsporting conduct by their opponents, after Max takes a well-struck penalty that his rival Ole saves just as well. When Ole tries to taunt Max afterward, Max has learned to let it roll off him and congratulates Ole on the win. Storyline 2: Vera hears voices coming from the wall of her apartment. Convinced that she is being pursued by a vengeful spirit, she considers moving to another care home. Max and the Wild 7 are left in the dark for a long time and follow false leads, until they realize that an admirer of Vera’s acting career wants her as a resident at a care home he runs. So, with the help of his sister, who works in the kitchen, he stages the haunting to pressure Vera.
