Meine fremde Freundin (2017)

Judith Lorenz starts work at the Hanover Public Health Department and quickly befriends her new colleague, Andrea Bredow. Her colleague Volker Lehmann constantly makes suggestive remarks and sexual innuendos to her. One of his former colleagues had previously quit her job at the department because of this behavior. When Lorenz is alone in the records room putting some files away, Lehmann comes in, criticizes her work, and stands very close to her. Later, she tells her colleague that Lehmann raped her. Bredow encourages her to tell her boss, Dr. Gonzor, and file a police complaint. Volker Lehmann is then suspended pending a court decision. After he tries to force his way into Lorenz’s apartment, he is taken into custody. Judith Lorenz contradicts herself in her accounts of this and other events, and her colleague begins to have doubts. Lehmann denies the allegations and appears to be suffering severely psychologically in custody. He is found guilty of rape. While he is serving his prison sentence, Bredow grows increasingly doubtful because of the contradictions in her friend’s statements about her life and her partly incomprehensible behavior. When Bredow discovers that Lorenz had made up her relationship with a man and many other things, she gets her husband, who is a lawyer, to represent Lehmann and secure a retrial. In the second trial, Lehmann is acquitted of the rape charge. After his release, he has a heart attack while cycling and dies.
