Meine Tochter Anne Frank (2015)

The life story of Anne Frank is told from the perspective of her father, Otto Frank. After his liberation and return from the Auschwitz concentration camp, he goes back to Amsterdam and to his business at Prinsengracht 263. There, his office assistant Miep Gies, who helped the people in hiding in the Secret Annex, gives him his daughter Anne’s diary. Miep Gies had gathered up the loose pages and books scattered across the floor of the Secret Annex and hidden them in a desk drawer, so she could return them to Anne after the war. After much hesitation, Otto Frank finally begins to put the loose pages in order, sort them by date, and read them. In this way, he gets to know his younger daughter anew, discovering sides of her he had never known—sides she had concealed during her lifetime, kept hidden from all the family members and occupants of the Secret Annex, and confided only to her diary, which she called her friend “Kitty.” This begins a painful journey through the loss of his beloved daughter, bringing back many memories of the experiences in the Secret Annex.
