A caravan of men and horses is preparing to escort an old sheikh across the Atlas Mountains to his distant family, with whom he wishes to spend his final days. When the caravan reaches the most inhospitable parts of the mountains, some of the men abandon the journey and refuse to put themselves in danger, since no one knows a viable route. The old sheikh leaves the group to be alone and dies sooner than expected. Only two petty criminals decide to continue the journey with his body, finally finding a purpose in their lives, along with a religious preacher.
