Momentversagen (2014)

Prosecutor Manuel Bacher celebrates his promotion with colleagues and afterward has an affair with a new prosecutor, which he immediately regrets. On his way home to his pregnant wife, he notices a junkie couple arguing in the park and intervenes. Angered in part by his own infidelity, he hits the man over the head with a bottle. The next day, he learns that the man is dead. He does not go to the police, unwilling to put his career, his wife, and the comfortable life in their new house at risk. Joy, a former drug addict, witnessed what happened and puts pressure on Bacher. The new prosecutor, Caroline von Studt, who is investigating the case, also puts pressure on him. Eventually, Bacher confesses his affair to his wife, Leonie, and later tells her about his violent outburst as well. Leonie is initially disappointed but stands by him. Joy moves in with the Bacher family. Manuel Bacher wants to come clean, and his conscience is weighing on him, especially since someone else is being held in pretrial detention for the killing and eventually even commits suicide. But Leonie stops him and looks after Joy so they will not jeopardize their future together. She even plans to open a boutique with Joy, but when the two go to look at the shell of a possible shop, Joy falls from a height at the construction site and dies. Whether it was an accident or Leonie caused the fall remains unclear. Leonie is admitted to hospital after a nervous breakdown. Investigators eventually find a baseball bat in Joy’s room, with which the drug addict was demonstrably killed, and the woman who had been harassed in the park at the time confesses to the crime. In the meantime, the investigation that had been opened against Manuel is dropped.
