Full plot (contains spoilers)
Ten-year-old Oscar is staying in a children’s hospital. Neither the doctors nor his parents dare tell him the truth about his illness. Only Mamie Rose, a gruff-looking woman who has come to deliver his pizzas, speaks to him frankly. To distract him, Rose suggests a game: they can pretend that each day now counts as ten years. In this way, she gives him an entire lifetime in just a few days. To help him open up more, she also suggests that he write to God. In his letters, Oscar confesses his pain, his worries, his joys, his first love, and his thoughts about the passage of time... A remarkable friendship grows between Oscar and Mamie Rose. Neither of them can imagine how profoundly this bond will change their destiny.
