Full plot (contains spoilers)
Thirty-year-old Hugi works as a teacher in an Icelandic village with a population of just 169. He likes the peacefulness of the region between the mountains. Nothing exciting or unexpected ever happens there, and you rarely run into anyone on the street. Hugi’s only contact is with two other members of Alcoholics Anonymous. The peace is abruptly disturbed, however, when Hugi’s father, Veigar, announces that he is coming to visit. Hugi hasn’t seen him in years. Unlike Hugi, Veigar is a youthful bon vivant who has just returned from a trip to Thailand. Hugi decides to welcome Veigar with open arms, but already regrets the decision when he arrives. The two struggle to connect, but gradually come to realize that their respective ways of life are merely excuses to avoid confronting themselves. Eventually, the two men grow close again.
