Two friends pursue a viral hobby-horsing dream, but the school ridicule and cost of a championship trip threaten to derail them.

The story

Friends Sarah and Dilek hope to find an unusual idea that will attract followers to their video channel. Sarah discovers hobby horsing, a Finnish sport in which riders imitate dressage with plush stick horses. When boys film the girls practicing and turn them into a school joke, Dilek is so embarrassed that she ends their friendship after Sarah refuses to quit. Sarah soon befriends Beatrice, a rider whose former champion mother is pushing her toward success, although Beatrice lacks both talent and desire for competitive riding. Beatrice would rather teach Sarah dressage techniques for hobby horsing. Sarah then sets her sights on a championship in Finland, but the girls have no money for the trip.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The friends Sarah and Dilek are looking for an unusual idea to attract followers to their video channel. Sarah discovers the crazy Finnish sport of “Hobby Horsing,” in which dressage riding is imitated with a plush stick horse. When the girls practice in a secluded place, a few boys spot them, film them, and make them the laughingstock of the school. Dilek is so embarrassed that she ends their friendship when Sarah refuses to stop the hobby right away. Soon afterward, Sarah becomes friends with Beatrice, a rider her own age. Beatrice’s mother, herself a former prize-winning rider, wants to turn her daughter into a champion, but the girl has neither the talent nor the inclination. She has much more fun teaching her new friend the techniques of dressage for her hobby. Before long, Sarah dreams of competing in the upcoming Hobby Horsing Championship in Seinäjoki, Finland, but the trip seems out of reach simply because they don’t have enough money. However, when Beatrice unexpectedly receives a large sum of money from her wealthy parents, the two girls set off for a weekend trip to Finland with forged permission slips from their parents. Sarah reports on the journey on her video channel. Their parents find out, and both mothers immediately set off after the girls. Meanwhile, the championship begins, and back home the girls’ whole clique follows the event on a big screen at the trendiest döner restaurant. Sarah makes it to the final round but fails at show jumping. When she throws her horse away in disappointment, she is disqualified for animal cruelty.
