Von Mädchen und Pferden (2014)

Alex drops out of school at the age of 16. Since her adoptive mother can no longer cope with her, she sends Alex to a horse farm, where she is supposed to do an internship as a horse groom in the hope that it will take her mind off things and teach her what real physical work is like. Alex is supervised by Nina, an instructor who has taken a break from hectic city life and wants to take some time out from her relationship with Christine. When Kathy, who is the same age as Alex, arrives at the horse farm as a visitor, the two initially develop a deep friendship, until they eventually realize that they have fallen in love with each other. In the meantime, Alex displays behavior that no one expected of her: she learns to empathize with horses and even, after a riding accident in which a gray horse injures its hoof, clean the wound and bandage it provisionally but properly, without it becoming infected. After several moments in which not only Nina, the lesbian riding instructor, gives free rein to her feelings, Alex and Kathy come to the shared realization that they belong together forever. The story ends romantically, with Alex and Kathy getting on a horse together and riding along the beach toward the North Sea. Alex then asks Kathy whether her offer still stands for Alex to come with her to Berlin. Kathy says yes and expresses how happy she is to have met Alex.
