The story

Gabrielle, Elsa and Mao are siblings who have little to do with one another. Gabrielle works as a “statue” for tourists, to the dismay of her teenage son. Elsa is angry with the world and despairing of ever becoming pregnant, while Mao, a gifted game designer, is chronically depressed and drinks to drown his melancholy. Their parents, Pierre and Claudine, have long been separated and have done little to bring the family together. After their grandfather is buried, the siblings must reunite and confront an awkward family question: what should they do with their grandmother?

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Gabrielle (Vanessa Paradis), Elsa (Camille Cottin) and Mao (Pierre Deladonchamps) are siblings, but they have nothing to do with one another. Absolutely nothing. Gabrielle is a “statue” for tourists, much to her teenage son’s dismay. Elsa, meanwhile, is angry with the whole world and despairing of ever getting pregnant. And Mao, a brilliant game designer who is chronically depressed, drowns his melancholy in alcohol and psychoanalysis. As for their parents, Pierre (Jean-Pierre Bacri) and Claudine (Chantal Lauby), long separated, they have never done anything to bring the family closer together. Yet, when their grandfather is buried, they will have to get together and answer, as a family, the awkward question: “What are we going to do with Grandma?”
