The story

In Amanha Lundju, each newborn is paired spiritually with a tree, though the State destroys many trees for firewood and lighting. Nomad Dou returns to the village and discovers that his twin brother, Hami, has died for an unknown reason. Tradition expects Dou to take responsibility for Hami’s widow, Saly, and her children, a duty he resents. When Dou visits the settlement, even his mother mistakes him for his dead brother. Seeking guidance, he goes to Hami’s tree. Strange events follow, and the village’s old sorcerer, Calacalado, sends the community on an initiatory journey through the desert, with Dou and Saly leading.
