Full plot (contains spoilers)

While searching for the wolf on a limestone plateau in Lozère, Léo, a broke Breton screenwriter who has run out of ideas, meets a shepherdess named Marie, who is raising her two children alone on her father’s farm. Armed with a rifle, she protects her flock of ewes from the wolf’s devastating attacks. Both lonely and longing for love, they quickly fall for each other. A baby is born from their encounter. During his travels around Lozère, Léo meets Yoan, an aimless young man who lives with old Marcel, a grumpy Pink Floyd nostalgist who listens to his stereo at full volume all day long. Strange relationships develop among these three people, all of them equally lost in life, though for different reasons. Marie, suffering from postnatal depression, sees that Léo is unstable and does not necessarily want to settle down with her, and abruptly decides to abandon the child and its father and go to the town of Séverac-le-Château. Left alone with the baby at the farm, Léo is torn between the discomfort caused by this cumbersome bundle and a certain protective tenderness toward the baby. Increasingly unable to write even a single line of screenplay, he begs his producer for advances on the work he has been commissioned to do, until their relationship breaks down and the producer stops financing him. He then sinks into poverty, finding himself like the homeless man to whom he used to give a few coins. As his life turns into a nightmare and he is pursued by the gendarmerie, he becomes aware of his decline and returns to seek shelter in the mountains and resume his fascinated quest for the wolf.
