Schmidts Katze (2015)

Schmidt's Cat is about the reserved, orderly Werner Schmidt, who is looking for a woman after his mother's death—so far without success. He can vent his frustration with women and other annoyances in only one way: by setting fires at night. Nothing is more relaxing than a meticulously planned car explosion, which he carries out using small remote-controlled cars. One night, he accidentally injures a woman who is inside the burning vehicle. In a panic, Werner takes her home. Now he finally has a woman in the house, but one who is not at all what he had in mind. Sibylle turns Werner's life upside down: to his great astonishment, she has no intention of leaving his house anytime soon, and she also refuses to be taken to the hospital. The reason is that she has a whole lot of trouble on her hands and is looking for shelter. Before long, not only Sibylle's life is in danger, but Werner's too. The real-estate mafia is after them, and his arsonist secret is in danger of being exposed. The mismatched pair have to learn to get along. Schmidt's neighbor Uwe, his coworker at the hardware store and “friend forever,” forms a citizens' patrol to catch the arsonist—and Schmidt is appointed deputy! In the end, he pins the arson attacks on the real-estate agent's son-in-law. The man is arrested, and Werner and Sibylle become a couple.
