Full plot (contains spoilers)

1st episode: In the Sicilian countryside, a frightened young woman offers herself to an armed man carrying a lupara who has brazenly barged into her home to settle a “little matter” with her husband. Her husband is away, and she believes that by doing so she can save his life. In fact, the man is none other than her husband’s friend, who has come to return the lupara that her husband had lent him. Cast: The Stranger: Vittorio Gassman; The Devoted Wife: Maria Fiore. 2nd episode: Alvaro, an employee at the Ministry of Transport, is all jokes and vulgar wisecracks with his colleagues, friends, and neighbors, but turns into a severe moralist as soon as he gets home to his wife and son. Cast: Alvaro: Vittorio Gassman. 3rd episode: A shopkeeper discovers that the wife of one of his old schoolmates is working as a prostitute with her husband’s consent. Cast: Tonino Zaffardi: Vittorio Gassman; The Prostitute: Giovanna Ralli; The Husband: Umberto D’Orsi. 4th episode: A woman hurries her casual lover along because she is late for her own wedding. Cast: The Man: Vittorio Gassman; The Lover: Antonella Lualdi. 5th episode: A sophisticated woman, with her exaggerated demands for discretion, exasperates her lover, who is looking for some privacy. As he searches for a suitable place, faced at every turn with her objections, the man instead gets satisfaction with the easygoing cleaning woman at a motel where he had stopped for yet another inspection. He then sets off on the return journey with the unsuspecting woman, who has been waiting for him in the car outside the motel, saying that their search for the right place to meet has come to nothing. Cast: Renato: Vittorio Gassman; Margherita: Sylva Koscina. 6th episode: A bartender in uniform, at the end of his shift, manages to cadge a ride home late at night from a prostitute with a car, pretending to be a well-dressed gentleman interested in hiring her services at his own home. Cast: The Bartender: Vittorio Gassman. 7th episode: A young man who appears devoted to traditional family values tries to step in to protect his sister after she gives in to the advances of an unscrupulous seducer, making sure that he takes responsibility for what he has done. After meeting the man by the pool at the club, where he spends his time surrounded by friends and beautiful women, the young man is captivated by his lifestyle, hoping that it might also offer him opportunities in his own love life. After a brief hesitation, he abandons the family’s much-cherished goal of making things right, and when his sister asks him what he discussed with the seducer, he urges her to loosen up and get back out there with a little more guile. Cast: Marcello Bonelli: Vittorio Gassman; Alfredo (Fred): Walter Chiari; Elena: Rosanna Gherardi; Loredana, the girl on the date: Ivy Holzer. 8th episode: A wealthy, bored woman seduces a crude, itinerant junk dealer (a “rag-and-bone man”) after persuading him to come up to her apartment. After sharing an intimate encounter with her, he leaves in irritation, shouting that he couldn’t find a single rag to take away. Cast: The Rag-and-Bone Man: Vittorio Gassman; The Wealthy Lady: Eleonora Rossi Drago. 9th episode: The unfaithful wife of a prisoner gets her husband a furlough for good behavior so she can have an intimate encounter with him, allowing her to later claim that he is the father of the child she is carrying. Cast: Diocleziano Pompei: Vittorio Gassman; Wife: Jeanne Valérie; Omar, the Lover: Gigi Proietti.
