Three teenage friends discover a potent plant and hatch a plan to use it to solve their romantic troubles.
The story
Childhood friends Anton, Adam, and Sven are 17 and share an awkward problem: none has had sex, and Sven’s relationship has gone no further than hand-holding and cuddling. At a nightclub, they struggle to connect with girls, while nerves and embarrassment make the evening go badly. The friends retreat to Anton’s home, where his parents have recently returned from Papua New Guinea with seeds of a mysterious plant. The plant grows unexpectedly overnight, and its juice has a powerful aphrodisiac effect. Seeing a chance to change their luck, the boys decide to prepare capsules and secretly add them to girls’ drinks.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Anton Ziegler (Ziege), Adam Hoppeszcynski (Häschen), and Sven Gutmann have been inseparable friends since childhood. Now they are 17 and share a problem: none of them has ever slept with a girl. Only Sven has a girlfriend, but so far they have done no more than hold hands and cuddle. One evening, they go to the Planet nightclub—but they get in through an open bathroom window because Walter, a substitute bouncer at the Planet, the self-proclaimed coolest guy in town and a schoolmate of theirs, refuses to let them in. Sven and his girlfriend go off by themselves to finally do it, while Ziege and Häschen climb into the Planet through the bathroom. There, they desperately try to make contact with girls. But Häschen is so shy that he gets gas every time he talks to a girl. This time, too, he makes a complete fool of himself with two girls. Meanwhile, Sven wants to have his first time with his girlfriend, but he is so nervous that it doesn’t work out. Frustrated, he returns to the Planet, where Häschen has meanwhile lost all his inhibitions after drinking too much alcoholic punch and is dancing onstage. But he soon feels sick and empties his stomach amid the crowd on the dance floor. After this humiliation, the three friends head to Anton’s house. His parents have just returned from a vacation in Papua New Guinea, where they unwittingly brought back the seeds of a mysterious plant. The three frustrated teenagers go to Anton’s room. Häschen falls asleep immediately, while Anton and Sven continue flipping through the TV channels until they, too, fall asleep. During the night, a plant suddenly grows out of a box containing half-eaten pizza. It is large and green, with a phallus-like protrusion in the middle. When rubbed, this protrusion squirts red plant juice—and that juice is potent stuff. Anyone who drinks it becomes horny for whoever they happen to be looking at 53 minutes later. The three of them now have an idea: if they put this aphrodisiac into capsules, they could secretly slip them into girls’ drinks. No sooner said than done. Anton even gives the capsules to their attractive math teacher. He excuses himself from a math test so he can take it in the afternoon instead, allowing him to be alone in the classroom with the teacher. But something goes wrong: the teacher has an appointment with her jazz-dance group and doesn’t stay in the classroom during the test, leaving an older colleague to supervise in her place. Panicking, Anton flees the classroom. Now he wants to at least watch her in the shower. Sven, too, stares intently through the changing-room window. So Anton and Sven sit together outside the window. For a brief moment, the two look into each other’s eyes—and then it happens: they had both taken these “Sex up” pills, too, and suddenly they throw themselves at each other, unable to stop themselves. Walter and his friends photograph them as well and put the pictures up on the school noticeboard. Sven’s girlfriend is, of course, furious and breaks up with him. After this humiliation, the three friends’ reputations at school are completely ruined. To wipe out the disgrace, they decide to enter the “Coolest Guys in Town” contest at the Planet. They rehearse a dance number especially for it with their schoolmate Horst, who is gay. Horst seems to be very interested in Sven. But before long, they get a little scared of the contest. In addition, Ines gets wind of the plant and visits Ziege at his house. Their argument ends in sex. While Ziege is still asleep, Ines has poured the plant juice into a bottle. Ziege drinks from it in the morning, which leaves him with a permanent erection. The three sit at their favorite hangout, wallowing in self-pity. Then Sven suddenly starts crying. Ziege and Häschen try to comfort him, and Sven comes out as gay. Ziege and Häschen assure him of their support, and the three reaffirm their friendship. After much discussion, they do go to the contest after all. Walter and his friends try to sabotage their performance, but Valerie, who has fallen in love with Häschen, suddenly knocks Walter out, and the three friends’ act is a success despite everything. They win the contest. After the performance, all three finally have steady relationships. Anton is dating Ines, Sven’s ex-girlfriend; Häschen is with Valerie; and Sven is with Horst. They are all happy and content.
