The story

Maja, a book author raising her son Niklas alone, decides to look for work as he enters his teenage years. A law-firm head who likes her books hires her as a divorce lawyer, but she quickly discovers she must work hard to establish herself in a male-dominated profession. One day, while driving to work, Maja struggles to turn down her car radio and yanks it from its slot, receiving a severe electric shock. Afterwards, she discovers she can hear the thoughts of all men. The new ability creates possibilities both at the firm and in her personal life, but it also puts her in situations where she knows things she should not know.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Maja, a book author who lives alone with her son Niklas, has had enough of the male world. When Niklas becomes a young teenager, she sets out to find a job. Because the head of a law firm likes her books, she manages to get a position there as a divorce lawyer. However, from the very beginning she is made to understand that she will have to work hard at the firm and hold her own as a woman in a male-dominated field. One day, while driving to work and needing to make a phone call, she tries to turn down the car radio but cannot. In desperation, she yanks it out of its slot and gets a severe electric shock. As a result, she mysteriously becomes able to hear the thoughts of all men. This naturally opens up entirely new possibilities for her, both as a lawyer and in her personal life, but ultimately brings about her downfall. People suspect that she has accessed case files without permission because she knows things about opposing counsel that she could not possibly know. This leads her to clash at first with the opposing lawyer, Hanno. She is also annoyed that he cannot remember her, since they had a brief affair years ago. But through her ability to hear thoughts, she discovers that Hanno likes her very much. Hanno continues to believe that she has lied to him until Maja proves that she can hear his thoughts. When the two are together on Hanno’s boat, Maja steps barefoot on a heap of coiled, poorly insulated cables and gets another electric shock. She loses her ability, while Hanno, who is also shocked, now becomes able to hear the thoughts of all women. They reconcile, become a couple, and set up a law firm together.
