Twenty-two-year-old Bartek runs a small farm in Podhale, which he took over after his father abandoned the family and left for the United States, causing his mother to break down and develop alcoholism. Bartek meets Dawid, the neighbors’ son, who is ten years older and has come back to the village following his father’s death. Fifteen years earlier, Dawid had moved to Iceland, leaving his ailing father alone and without care in the family home. Dawid’s departure caused a moral scandal in the village at the time. Bartek falls in love with Dawid, and his infatuation with the young man, his carefree nature, and his free-spirited approach to life prompt Bartek to reflect on whether he is ready to leave the village himself.
