The story
Daniel Boltanski is a celebrated writer who guards his privacy by writing under the pseudonym Serge Novak, with help from his agent. After an affair with a young woman, he discovers the next morning that she is his son’s bride. Daniel has paid little attention to his son, and the two have never built a father-son relationship.

Daniel Boltanski is a celebrated writer, but he is obsessed with privacy and therefore writes under the pseudonym Serge Novak, with the help of his agent. One day, Daniel has an affair with a young woman, and the next morning he discovers that she is the bride of his son, whom he has always paid little attention to and with whom he has never built a father-son relationship. The writer finds himself at the center of a blackmail scheme: he is accused of having plagiarized the novel that brought him his first success, and he may have had a relationship in the past that resulted in a daughter he never acknowledged in Poland.
