After a violent night and a heroin high, Peter tells his little sister two disturbing stories as the moon seems to burn above him.

The story

Peter’s parents pressure him to apply for an apprenticeship at a pharmacy, but he has no interest in finding work and soon leaves. That evening, a friend takes him to a gathering where Peter’s group gets into a bloody fight with a rival gang. At home, his parents ask him to watch his little sister while they go out. Peter refuses and causes trouble, prompting his father to become physically aggressive. Once his parents have left, Peter injects himself with heroin and goes to the balcony, where the full moon appears to burn through his drug-induced haze. When his sister cannot sleep, he begins telling her stories.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Peter’s parents pressure him to apply for an apprenticeship at a pharmacy. It soon becomes clear, however, that he has no interest in looking for work, and he leaves the pharmacy after a brief conversation. A friend drives him to a gathering of their group that evening. The group gets into a bloody fight with a rival gang. When Peter gets home, his parents tell him to look after his little sister because they are going out. Peter refuses and makes trouble, so his father becomes physically aggressive. After his parents leave, Peter injects himself with heroin and goes out onto the balcony. He gazes at the full moon and, in his drug-induced haze, believes he sees it burning—hence the film’s title. When Peter’s little sister can’t sleep, he sits on her bed and tells her the following stories: “Julia’s Love” An escaped mass murderer falls in love with Julia. While she is sitting in his car and he goes to get cigarettes, she hears on the radio that the car has been reported stolen. She runs away, but forgets her wallet, which contains her address. When the mass murderer realizes Julia has fled, he drives to her home and kills her entire family and an acquaintance. Julia is eventually rescued by a police officer, who kills the mass murderer with a shot to the head. “The Purity” The priest in a small, sleepy village has fallen under the Devil’s sway. In his quest for eternal life, he sacrifices numerous villagers to Lucifer. After committing another double murder, the priest reflects on his deeds and finally shoots himself, without anyone ever discovering that he was the actual serial killer. The villagers now suspect the village idiot, who is lynched on their behalf by a hired killer. After the deed, the killer dreams that he is mutilated in Hell and then torn apart. After this dream, he is seen lying dead in his room. After telling the two stories, Peter stabs his sister to death. He then goes out onto the balcony and looks at the full moon. He begins to cry and slashes his wrists. Then he collapses to the floor and dies.
