Il Bosco (1988)

After a bloody opening in which a female monster castrates her lover, the story begins with two engaged people, the American Cindy and Toni, who decide to take a trip to the Alps. On the way, they come to the aid of Arva, the woman from the prologue, who says she was attacked by something horrible in the cemetery. Toni goes to investigate, but only gets the feeling that something invisible is watching him. After taking Arva to the village, the couple meet a horror writer, and the mere sight of him makes the woman flee. He tells them strange local legends, such as the satanic rites practiced by the Cimbri, a people who lived in isolation in those woods. He also tells them a story he has made up about the two of them, in which they will kill each other. Sickened, the couple continue their journey, but at the foot of the mountains they encounter the writer again, and he warns them of the dangers of the area. Farther on, they meet Arva, who explains that she fled because the writer is a completely mad man whom everyone in the village avoids. The young woman offers them a place to sleep in a barn in the middle of the woods. When they arrive, while Cindy is distracted, Arva offers Toni some drugs. He accidentally drops them into a strange liquid, which splashes onto him. Toward evening, he starts to feel ill, and Cindy, furious, drives Arva away. Soon afterward, a zombie attacks them—the young man Arva castrated and killed at the beginning of the film. After they manage to chain him up, Toni is possessed by an evil force that drives him to try to rape Cindy. She runs away in terror. The young man is seduced by Arva, who reveals that she is a witch. He is saved by the sudden intervention of Algeroon, who is nevertheless killed. As Toni flees, the zombie catches up with him and chops off his hands. Even so, he manages to reach Cindy. The two take refuge in ruins near a spring. The monster catches up with them and decapitates Tony. The girl flees, but encounters the writer, who has also been transformed into an evil being. Cindy takes refuge in the barn, where she finds a chainsaw, which she uses to disembowel the writer. The other monster is destroyed by the light of dawn. Cindy flees the woods while Arva, mortally wounded in an earlier fight, is ready to awaken.
