A cattle-insemination veterinarian must confront the women with whom he has unresolved business after his affair with a young intern lands him in trouble.
The story
Nacho, a veterinarian who specializes in cattle insemination, is described as a charming, manipulative rogue who uses the women in his life. After getting into trouble because of his relationship with Ona, a young intern, he must face several women with whom he has unresolved business: Ona, his mother Amparo, his psychologist Andrea, colleague Laura, former fiancée Marga, and sister-in-law Carmen. The encounters force him to address the unfinished matters between them, against a broader portrait of a man whose evasions and tendency to blame others reflect a declining form of machismo.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Nacho, described by the lead actor as “a manipulative, charming rogue who uses the women who pass through his life,” is a veterinarian specializing in cattle insemination. He gets into a mess because of his lover, Ona, a young intern, and must face the women who have meant something in his life. Before him appear his lover, his mother Amparo, his psychologist Andrea, his colleague Laura, his former fiancée Marga, and his sister-in-law Carmen. He has unfinished business with all of them, and he must confront each of them to resolve it. As Barroso himself puts it, “it is a portrait of the decline of a kind of man who in Spain is now in his final throes—a machismo that has a lot to do with men’s inability to tell the truth and their tendency to blame others.”
