A seemingly prosperous Vienna couple’s marriage is unsettled when the wife’s ex-convict former partner returns and blackmails her over their criminal past.
The story
Entrepreneurs Niklas and Carolin Siegl appear to lead a happy, comfortable life in Vienna: he runs a jewelry store and she owns a fashion boutique. Niklas knows nothing about Carolin’s past, but that changes when her former boyfriend Timo is released from prison and comes looking for her. Timo and Carolin once broke into villas and stole valuable jewelry. He moves into the Siegl home under the guise of being her cousin and threatens to expose her history unless she pays him. As Timo’s presence raises suspicions, Niklas begins investigating what his wife has kept from him.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Entrepreneurs Niklas and Carolin Siegl are happily married and enjoy their bourgeois life in Vienna. Niklas runs what appears to be a successful jewelry store, and Carolin owns an exquisite fashion boutique. Niklas knows nothing of his wife’s past. When Carolin’s ex-boyfriend Timo is released from prison, he immediately seeks her out. They were once thieves who broke into villas in Hamburg and stole the most expensive jewelry. Timo moves in with the Siegls, passes himself off as Carolin’s cousin, and blackmails her: either she pays him, or her past will be exposed. Niklas soon becomes suspicious and hires a private detective, learning about his wife’s former life. Since he is also in financial trouble, he comes up with the idea of having Timo rob his jewelry store so he can use the existing insurance policy to clear his debts.
