Tutto per mio figlio (2022)

Pesconormanno, Caserta, 1996. Raffaele Acampora is a street vendor in the Caserta area who is harassed by the Camorra because he no longer wants to pay protection money. After finding the union he had turned to for protection unwilling to help, he decides to found one himself and immediately manages to get several fellow vendors to join him, people as desperate as he is. Raffaele then decides to approach Major Basile and Prosecutor D’Arrigo, working with them on an operation that leads to the arrest of veterinarian Fernando Cozzolino. Cozzolino had been demanding a “riffa”—payment for an obscure lottery—on behalf of the Innaurato clan, and is caught red-handed pocketing the money. As a result, Raffaele and the other vendors are threatened and ordered to pay the clan double. Acampora reassures them and has freelance journalist Sergio De Luca publish news of their strike. He also receives support from the town council, following an initiative by councilor Rea. But the threats against Raffaele continue: first, the window of his van is smashed, and he finds a dead rabbit on the seat; then his car is set on fire and the garden at his home is ransacked. His wife, Anna, and his friend Domenico, who is related to the Camorristi and has been warned by them, ask him to stop putting himself in the line of fire and filing complaints, while his fellow vendors gradually withdraw. Carla, wife of boss Agostino Innaurato, gathers the other allied bosses and asks them to stay calm and leave Acampora alone for the time being, even though he has started investigating a company connected to them, Santa Chiara. They refuse to listen, however, and one of them, Costella, orders Domenico Fierro and his friend Vincenzo to eliminate Raffaele and make it look as though Agostino Innaurato is responsible, since he is cooperating with the authorities. Carla Innaurato approaches Raffaele’s sister and offers her money to get him to leave for Canada, where he could start a new life, but when Raffaele hears about it, he indignantly refuses. Desperate, his wife goes to the Innaurato villa and asks Carla to spare Raffaele. Anna simply cannot make her husband see reason: he is determined to carry on with his actions. Carla then tries to call Raffaele at the union, but the line is busy, and it is too late: Domenico kills him. At Raffaele’s funeral, besides his family, the only people present who never abandoned him are Major Basile and Sergio De Luca. In a moving speech, Peppino promises at his father’s grave that he will study. Pesconormanno, 2022: Peppino, now a grown man, has not only kept the promise he made to his father, but has also honored his memory by continuing his fight against lawlessness. Peppino has turned Villa Iannurato into a cooperative restaurant; he encourages people to rebel against protection rackets by organizing marches and demonstrations, but above all, he tells them the story of his brave father in the hope that they will be inspired by him. Pesconormanno is now a better place, just as Raffaele had always wanted.
