Full plot (contains spoilers)

The fisherman Angelo Vassallo lives in the small town of Pollica in Cilento, a place completely devastated by misgovernment. Vassallo is a man full of hope and wants to restore jobs and beauty to the municipality of Pollica, fighting the Camorra, which, besides selling drugs along the seafront, has enabled public works to be carried out through rigged contracts, further tarnishing the town’s image. Vassallo runs for mayor and manages to win, but must immediately contend with the hostility of the councillors and even the town secretary. After a clash with the magistrate and with his father, whose illegal, non-compliant house he has demolished, Angelo Vassallo can begin his work to clean up the town. By the turn of the millennium, the municipality has become one of the most important tourist destinations in Cilento, with a well-equipped harbor and a nature reserve, but the problem of the Camorra and drug dealing remains. So, in 2010, shortly after having a seafront nightclub shut down where a substantial amount of drug dealing was taking place, Vassallo is assassinated with several gunshots as he is driving home.
