The story
Philippe, 25, arrives one morning at his sister’s home in Arcachon, where she has not seen him for a long time. In the building, he meets Betty, 20, who lives with her five-year-old son Damien at her parents’ home. Betty cares for Damien with a tenderness described as more like a sister’s than a mother’s. Philippe, Betty, and Damien cross paths again throughout the day, bringing them into one another’s orbit. An accident that might have separated them instead changes their lives, setting the story in motion.

Philippe is 25. One morning, he arrives at his sister’s home in Arcachon; she hasn’t seen him in a long time. In his sister’s building, he runs into Betty. Betty is 20 and has a five-year-old son, Damien, who lives with her at her parents’ home. She loves him with a tenderness that is more like a sister’s than a mother’s.
