A revue dancer’s raffle win and a fabricated millionaire rumor promise a career boost—but stir up trouble in a stranger’s marriage.

The story

Revue dancer Yelli Ball wins a sports car in a raffle, and her friend Lisa, a press photographer, uses a photo of it to publish a fabricated caption saying Yelli has a millionaire admirer. Lisa and her boyfriend Charly hope the rumor will help Yelli’s career. Yelli’s revue director sees a possible investor in the supposed suitor and puts her in the spotlight, making the revue a success and giving her a career breakthrough. But the millionaire, Knipperdolling, knows nothing of the rumor, which sparks marital trouble when his wife Reseda believes he has been unfaithful.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The attractive but not especially successful revue dancer Yelli Ball wins the grand prize with a raffle ticket. Instead of the refrigerator she had hoped for, she is now the proud owner of a sports car! Her friend Lisa, a press photographer, seizes the opportunity and promptly takes a picture of the flashy car to publish in “her” newspaper. To give Yelli’s career a boost at the same time, Lisa and her boyfriend Charly, a young hairdresser, plant a rumor in the photo caption that the talented dancer has a millionaire admirer. Yelli’s revue director hears about this too and takes notice: if Yelli has a rich man on the hook, perhaps he could also be persuaded to invest in the theater. To make the idea appealing to the supposed millionaire, the director immediately puts Yelli in the spotlight, turning his new revue into a huge success and giving the up-and-coming dancer her big break. There really is a millionaire in Yelli’s circle. His name is Knipperdolling, and he knows nothing of his supposed “good fortune” in being rumored to admire Yelli. Instead, the rumor causes serious marital problems with his wife, Reseda. Because of the newspaper article, she believes her husband has started cheating on her in his old age! To restore peace in the marriage, Yelli, Lisa, and Charly decide to find an “exonerating witness” for Knipperdolling. The three find one in none other than Knipperdolling junior, who runs a poultry farm. Yelli and Philipp Knipperdolling fall for each other at their very first meeting. To bring the ensuing genre-typical misunderstandings and complications to a happy ending, Lisa and Charly have to work hard, especially since Yelli is affected too and suddenly seems no longer to believe in her love for Philipp. In the end, however, there are two young couples in love, all declaring: “We like the world!”
