Full plot (contains spoilers)
The psychodrama tells the story of Bea Kanter, a Stasi agent in West Germany. As a young student in the mid-1970s, she is recruited by the Ministry for State Security as a “prospective agent.” Over the next 16 years, the film shows how she first moves her place of study from Frankfurt am Main to the politically less suspicious city of Cologne. After graduating, she gets a job at the Foreign Office and regularly supplies information to the GDR. It is only through reunification that her cover is blown. The main storyline, however, focuses on the protagonist’s personal relationships, her inability to build a satisfying relationship with men, and her conflicts with her conservative family.
