Full plot (contains spoilers)

Claudia Freydank’s son Patrick wants to marry his girlfriend Anna in Iceland, as she requested. Barely has he landed in Reykjavík when Anna tells him over a video call on her smartphone that she has met someone else and can no longer marry him. Meanwhile, Claudia is keeping a big secret from her son: she and his friend Alex have been a couple for several years. Patrick and Alex are at a loss over how to deal with the canceled wedding. Patrick doesn’t want Alex to tell his mother about it. Patrick also learns that the startup he runs with Alex is in trouble. To his surprise, his assistant Nina suddenly turns up at his door, and he doesn’t seem pleased to see her. Claudia and Alex have set off on an Iceland tour with the married couple Gerhardt and Sieglinde Kresters. The tour is with Troll Tours, but the guide doesn’t say a word to them. They still have plenty to sort out, and Alex now tells Claudia that her son’s wedding has fallen through. Gerhardt Kresters is a rather difficult man, and he clashes with the silent bus driver. Then the old, rickety bus breaks down. Claudia calls Patrick, who comes to tow it; Nina is with him. Alex proposed to Claudia in a romantic grotto, and she accepted on the spot. The two plan to get married in Iceland instead of Patrick and Anna, but Claudia still wonders whether this is the right time to tell her son the truth. During the tour, Gerhardt and Sieglinde Kresters argue at the Strokkur geyser. The argument ends with Sieglinde returning her wedding ring to her husband and telling him that she will file for divorce as soon as they are back in Germany. When Patrick is then confronted, completely unprepared, with the news that his mother and his best friend are a couple and want to get married here in Iceland, he is furious. He turns away from them both, but Nina comforts him. She also finds the courage to confess that she has been in love with him for a long time. The two slowly grow closer, and Patrick regains his balance and finds a solution to the current sales problem at their small startup in Germany. Alex, too, has been busy: he has asked Gerhardt Kresters, a former tax inspector, for help. The mayor approves a bicycle-rental business in Iceland. Sieglinde Kresters makes up with her husband, and Patrick shows his mother and Alex that he is happy for them. Then all four of them—Patrick, Nina, Claudia, and Alex—jump over a fire together, as doing so is supposed to bring good luck to lovers.
