Full plot (contains spoilers)
29-year-old Simon Peters works as a salesman in a mobile phone shop. His girlfriend Tina left him more than a year ago, and he has considerable difficulty finding a new partner—and, above all, the right woman to spend his life with. He is the only one to return from a singles’ vacation without having had sex. Later, he puts off two flight attendants at his apartment when two porn films turn up in his DVD collection during a film-guessing game. His Croatian cleaner Lala’s attempts to set him up are just as unsuccessful as his best friend Paula’s efforts to devise a foolproof plan for him to find “the one.” Eventually, Simon falls in love at first sight with Marcia P. Garcia, an employee of the All-American Coffee Company. When he discovers that, like him, she is a fan of the Fantastischen Vier, he gives her a ticket to an upcoming concert by the band. At the concert, however, Simon discovers that Marcia is an unpleasant shrew who has no interest in him at all. After losing his job and neglecting his friends, Simon shuts himself away in his apartment. After some time, his ex-girlfriend visits him to wish him a happy 30th birthday. She makes it clear that the problem is not with women, but with him. Simon then resolves to change. He invites his friends over to make up for lost time, having prepared a gift for each of them. Before his friends arrive for his birthday party, however, while fleeing from a bailiff, he accidentally gets stranded outside on the window ledge of his apartment. His friend Paula interprets the situation as a suicide attempt by Simon and calls the fire department to de-escalate the situation. Simon eventually falls accidentally, but is caught unharmed by an air cushion. During his party, Simon slips away to burn his “IKEA bachelor armchair” in a parking lot. There, he makes eye contact with a young woman who is also burning a bachelor armchair and smiles at him.
