Full plot (contains spoilers)

The film depicts Christmas Eve in an apartment building in Cologne and portrays several of its tenants: Web designer Peter and his girlfriend Katharina are arguing because Peter invited his ex-girlfriend Esther to a hip Christmas party. Katharina flees to her parents’ place and gets stuck in the elevator with Kai, Esther’s date. Meanwhile, Mirijam is spending Christmas Eve with her boyfriend Wolfgang, who has recently converted to Judaism, when Wolfgang’s mother suddenly turns up, still unaware of his decision. Mrs. Maschke, the kiosk owner, is looking forward to a peaceful Christmas with her daughter and her husband, who would rather go out on the town with his friend. Finally, police officer Ben has arranged to be on duty so he can be near Tanja. When the two are called to the apartment building, the separate episodes begin to intertwine.
