Full plot (contains spoilers)

While Winnetou and his sister Nscho-tschi are rounding up wild mustangs with warriors from the Apache tribe, they are ambushed by the bandit Silers and his henchmen and are forced to flee. The Native Americans receive help from fur trapper Jason Waade, known as Old Firehand, and his friends Tom, Caleb, and Moses. When Winnetou seeks justice against Silers in the small town of Miramonte, he and Old Firehand become embroiled in further disputes with Silers. His brother Billy-Bob is being held in the local jail, and Sargento Mendozza is pressured by the townspeople to release him so they can escape Silers’ revenge. Old Firehand is persuaded by Mendozza to defend the town, not least because he has been reunited there with his old love, Michèle, who has a son, Jace, with him. However, neither Jace nor Old Firehand knows that Old Firehand is his father. Although the eccentric English gentleman Ravenhurst is courting Michèle, she has not yet accepted his advances. Some of the townspeople help Billy-Bob attempt to escape in order to keep the peace in town, but Caleb kills him during the attempt. In revenge, Silers massacres a wagon train of fleeing townspeople, whom Mendozza has disarmed. Silers’ men load the wagons with dynamite, send them back to Miramonte with the dead, and then shoot at the dynamite. It explodes in the middle of town, causing several deaths and damaging houses. Old Firehand organizes the town’s defense before the bandits try to burn it down the next morning. After suffering heavy losses, they initially withdraw. Winnetou sets out to get help from the army, but on the way he encounters Capitan Quilvera and his Mexican bandits. One of the men shoves the Native American into a ravine, where he lies unconscious. After a while, he comes to. Quilvera and Silers join forces and attack the town together. The Padre, who confronts them with a raised cross, is shot by Silers despite Quilvera’s protest. The townspeople put up a fierce fight under Old Firehand’s leadership, and the attackers slowly fall back. Winnetou manages to take a horse laden with dynamite from the bandits and make the dynamite explode in their midst, killing most of them. The townspeople pursue the survivors. Old Firehand and Tom go after Silers, who shoots Quilvera. Silers then mortally wounds Tom, who dies. Old Firehand thinks a bullet would be wasted on Silers, so he has Winnetou give him his bow and arrows, pins Silers to a tree trunk with an arrow, and then kills him with another.
