The story
Physician Gentatsu tells three stories. Oito, an Edo townswoman, is deceived by a yakuza and becomes a courtesan in Yoshiwara, while continuing to pine for a man. Ochise, the daughter of a wealthy merchant, repeatedly brings people with physical disabilities into a sideshow tent and indulges in perverse sexual pleasures. A third tale concerns a tyrant's brutal deeds.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
“The Tale of Oito”: The tragedy of an Edo townswoman (Masumi Tachibana) who, despite being deceived by a yakuza and sinking so low as to become a courtesan in Yoshiwara, continues to pine for a man and dies after being tortured. “The Tale of Ochise”: The fate of a wealthy merchant’s daughter (Mitsuko Aoi), who drags people with physical disabilities into a sideshow tent night after night and indulges in perverse sexual pleasures. “The Tale of Omitsu”: The story of a tyrant’s (Asao Koike) brutal deeds and downfall. He commits every kind of atrocity, including slitting open a pregnant woman’s belly, suffocating a naked woman with gold dust, and releasing a herd of cows among naked female attendants.
