The story
Véra Varlet, a wealthy shipowner in Marseille, asks Giovanni Costello, her childhood sweetheart and a former police commissioner now living in Crete, to help her daughter Sybille, who is accused of murdering young drug dealer Kevin Lantier. Giovanni agrees to return to Marseille and conduct a counter-investigation.

Véra Varlet, a wealthy Marseille shipowner, calls on her childhood sweetheart, former police commissioner Giovanni Costello, who has gone to live in Crete, to save her daughter Sybille, accused of murdering the young drug dealer Kevin Lantier. Giovanni Costello agrees to return to Marseille to conduct a counter-investigation, but he soon discovers that young Sybille seems to have committed another murder, for which Kevin Lantier had apparently agreed to take the blame and go to prison in her place in exchange for one million euros.
