Full plot (contains spoilers)

The film tells the story of Sabine, who moves in with her father because there is tension with her mother’s new boyfriend. In her new town, she meets Eddi, whom she asks for directions. She has ended up in a rather bleak area, a satellite town of high-rise apartment blocks. Eddi and some members of his group of friends are her new classmates. Sabine meets thirteen-year-old Florian. A scuffle between Eddi, Stefan, and Micha and the stranger Aldo gets out of control when Aldo pulls a knife. Later, Eddi stabs Aldo in the back to make him leave Micha alone. The three flee in a panic, and Micha, who has taken the knife, runs into Sabine. Deeply shaken by the sight of Aldo dying, she drops her biology book into the pool of blood in her confusion and cannot bring herself to pick it up. The biology book leads the police to the school and to Eddi and Sabine’s year group. Micha, who already has quite a bit on his record and has been in prison, recently turned eighteen and is determined not to go back. He wants to cover up what happened. Sabine saw him near the crime scene, and he tries to silence her with threats; he even thinks about doing something worse. Florian tells Sabine that the owner of the biology book is considered a suspect at the crime scene. When the police show up in the schoolyard, Eddi decides to get to know Sabine better so he can find out what she saw and what she might say in a statement. She subsequently tells him what she witnessed. A tender bond begins to form between Sabine and Eddi. One Saturday morning, Micha turns up at Sabine’s place to take her to a dogfight, forcing her to watch. On the way there, he frightens her with his rough behavior. The dog that she and Eddi sometimes used to walk dies in the dogfight. Eddi finds Sabine, who is still very confused, and takes her to an unfinished building, where Micha subjects her to an aggressive interrogation on the roof. She admits that she saw him. Micha hints that he might push Sabine in front of a train and then makes it clear that he would not hesitate to commit murder. Sabine realizes that Eddi had only been using her. The feelings they had for each other are gone. During the further investigation, the police question Micha and initially keep him in custody. Once he is released, he learns that Daniel, a dealer whose place the group sometimes hangs out at, owns a gun. Micha asks him to lend it to him, but Daniel refuses. Micha knocks Daniel down and steals the gun. At the same time, Sabine’s mother shows up at her father’s apartment and wants to take her back with her. Sabine refuses, grabs a long knife from the kitchen table when no one is watching, and sets off to find Micha. Eddi runs into Florian by chance, and Florian tells him, distraught, that Sabine had just held a knife to his throat. Eddi senses that something is up and goes to the unfinished building. Daniel asks Anton, the boss of the youth club, to come along and help him look for Micha. One by one, they all gather in the stairwell of the unfinished building. Stefan warns Sabine about Micha in the stairwell. Micha is already there too, and Sabine pulls out the knife. Micha wrests it from her and threatens her and Eddi, who has just arrived, with the gun. Eddi manages to disarm Micha. The gun falls right at Florian’s feet; he has crept after Eddi. He cocks it and fires a shot, more or less unintentionally, hitting Micha in the chest. Micha dies. Eddi and Sabine are arrested.
