Tobias’s alcoholism puts growing strain on his business partnership and family life.

The story

Tobias is married to Anika, and they have three children together. He runs an architectural firm with his business partner, Thomas. Though he could be happy, Tobias is an alcoholic, and drinking shapes his club outings and party nights, which grow wilder and feel increasingly unreal; inevitable hangovers follow. Alcohol has been a constant presence since his first drink as a teenager, and he reaches for another drink to cure his hangovers. His escapades increasingly trouble Thomas, while family life is falling apart.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Tobias is married to Anika, and they have three children together. Tobias runs an architectural firm with his business partner, Thomas. He could, in theory, be a happy man. But Tobias is an alcoholic, and in truth he is married to the bottle. That is why his best friend, “Bottle,” plays the real leading role in his life. Bottle has been by his side in every situation since Tobias took his first drink as a teenager. With Bottle along, every trip to the club and every night of partying is even better—and wilder and more unreal, too, though the hangover the next morning is inevitable. But what is the best cure for a hangover? Of course: another sip of the good stuff. The pressure on Tobias is mounting. His escapades are causing nothing but trouble for his business partner, Thomas. And family life is increasingly falling apart, too. When Tobias and his family narrowly escape disaster because he is driving drunk, he begins to reconsider his drinking. He realizes that his friendship with Bottle is not doing him any good. But by the time he tries to get rid of his best friend, it is already too late. For his overly clingy companion, “Bottle,” is none other than Tobias’s alcoholism itself. And nobody is better trained to sabotage every attempt at recovery.
