When an estranged fourth elf's reunion with her sisters ends in a curse, Beutolomäus must find a way to save Christmas.
The story
At Christmas, Beutolomäus hopes to join Santa Claus in town to collect the children’s wishes, but he has promised to help the elves. One elf’s pranks cause trouble, and Beutolomäus identifies her as Rosalinde, the estranged fourth sister. Hoping to reunite the siblings, Santa summons Rosalinde and her three sisters to the Christmas house. Their meeting quickly becomes a quarrel: Rosalinde curses her sisters, turning them back into children without magical powers. Santa is caught in the curse as well, and Beutolomäus fears for Christmas unless the spell can be undone.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Once again, it is Christmas. The whole town is bustling with activity. Beutolomäus is eagerly waiting for things to get underway again, too. The first thing Santa Claus decides to do is go into town to collect the children’s wishes. Beutolomäus would like to come along, but he has promised to help the elves. One elf, however, is causing mischief in town and teasing people. Even Santa Claus is not safe from her pranks, and that evening Beutolomäus tells everyone about the countless Christmas mishaps the elves had to deal with that day. It soon becomes clear that the fourth elf, Rosalinde, was responsible. Beutolomäus knows that even as a child she was always up to no good, and that her three sisters later cast her out because of it. Santa Claus is shocked and says they must reconcile the four of them, since they are sisters, after all. He already has an idea: he summons the three elf sisters to the Christmas house and manages to magically bring Rosalinde there, too. Now all four are sitting around a table, but they are far from agreeing. On the contrary, they make so many accusations against one another that Rosalinde ends up casting a curse, turning her sisters back into children so they no longer have any magical powers. Since Santa Claus arrives at that very moment, the curse affects him, too. Everyone is horrified, and Beutolomäus fears for Christmas if the curse is not undone as quickly as possible. Beutolomäus fetches Ruprecht to look after the elf children, but Ruprecht is not at all pleased, as he is not very good with children. Meanwhile, Beutolomäus rushes into town to look for Rosalinde. But she cannot undo the anger spell, so Beutolomäus has to consult the Magical Book to find out what they might be able to do. The only way to undo the curse is to reverse it with three “ingredients” before midnight that same day. These three things are: a hair of wisdom, a tooth of time, and the most precious salt in the world. Beutolomäus sets off at once to find the ingredients. He finds the hair of wisdom at a retirement home, belonging to an elderly lady. Beutolomäus discovers the tooth of wisdom at the Natural History Museum, and Rosalinde obtains the most precious salt, which is made from her own tears. But to do so, she must also give up the most precious thing she owns: her medallion. That evening, as she observes the others, she discovers how lovely it is when siblings make up. She has realized that there is nothing more precious than siblings and is now ready to undo the curse. The elves and Santa Claus are delighted to find that they have been transformed back, and they, too, have learned their lesson and realized how much they miss their sister. At last, they can embrace, just as Santa Claus had hoped, and Christmas is saved, too.
