Neuilly-sur-Seine, 1993. Seventeen-year-old Selma lives with her father, a lawyer, and her mother, who gave up her career as a gynecologist to raise her. Although she was born in France, the young woman is Kabyle and lives between two cultures. She has just enrolled at ECIP, a business school, where she meets Julien, a final-year student. Drawn to his charm and tender humor, she falls into his arms and discovers love, both physical and emotional. But she comes home late, causing her parents concern and even fury. They are also trying, more or less discreetly, to arrange a marriage for her. To that end, her parents introduce her to Luka, the son of friends. But Luka rapes Selma in a hotel room.
