A struggling man’s efforts to support his family unfold amid exploitation and moral compromise in his neighborhood.

The story

İsmail is a poor man from an outlying neighborhood who has no steady job and takes whatever work he can find to feed his family. He lives among people who earn money reluctantly and fearfully amid developing modern imperialism. His wife, by contrast, is among those taken in by the situation. Through this contrast, the film presents a community shaped by exploitation and moral compromise, suggesting that overlooking its wrongs allows them to spread beyond those who first accept them.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

“İsmail” (Aytaç Arman) is a poor man from an outlying neighborhood who has no steady job and works at anything he can to feed his family. Alongside people like İsmail, who earn money reluctantly and fearfully amid developing modern imperialism, there are also those who are taken in by the situation, like İsmail’s wife. Through Yılmaz Güney’s perspective and Ökten’s portrayal, the film shows how ignoring the exploitation-driven wrongs and immorality in this neighborhood allows them to spread to everyone like a virus.
