The story

Carlos, a cynical architect whose business troubles and gambling debts have strained his relationship with Diana, travels with her to Acapulco. There they plan to celebrate the birthday of Héctor, Carlos’s lifelong friend, alongside Héctor’s sister Isabel. From the beginning of the trip, tensions emerge among the group and Sergio, the attentive servant at Héctor and Isabel’s house. Over the next day, insults, grievances, envy, jealousy, lies, and sexual games complicate their attempts to set aside their differences, while secrets from their past begin to surface.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Carlos is a cynical, depraved, arrogant architect fallen on hard times, whose relationship with his lover Diana is on shaky ground because of his bad business dealings and various gambling debts. But the couple decides to set their differences aside for a while, travel to Acapulco, and celebrate the birthday of Héctor—a lifelong friend of Carlos’s—along with Héctor’s sister, Isabel. However, from the very first minute of the trip and over the next 24 hours, all four characters (along with Sergio, the handsome and attentive servant at Héctor and Isabel’s house) become embroiled in a string of insults, grievances, envy, barbed remarks, jealousy, lies, sexual games, half-truths, orgies, ambitions, and unmentionable secrets from their childhood and adolescence that come to light. These threaten their ability to get along and lead to an abortion, a coming-out, a murder, a rape…and an unpunished crime.
