The story
Julio, a gruff 65-year-old manual laborer in Madrid’s Vallecas neighborhood, has spent his life alone and expects to face retirement the same way. His solitude is interrupted when a teenage girl from Marseille arrives at his door, following a clue that her father lives there. Julio is bewildered: he is not even certain that he is her father. He must decide whether to reject the girl or take her in, weighing the uncertain relationship against the possibility that her presence might ease his loneliness.

Julio is a gruff 65-year-old manual laborer who lives in Madrid’s Vallecas neighborhood. He has been alone all his life, and now he is prepared to face his upcoming retirement alone as well. One day, a young girl from Marseille knocks on his door, having been given a clue that her father lives there. Bewildered and unsure what to do, Julio must make the hardest decision of his life: reject a teenager when he is not even sure he is her father, or take her in as a cure for his loneliness.
