Full plot (contains spoilers)

Julien Barnier is a fulfilled man: he is married to Anne and is the father of a boy, Charles. He is the director of a debt-collection agency, where he has learned not to let sentiment get in the way of his work. One day, he meets Angela, an alluring, strange young woman sitting on the terrace of a café overlooking his office. She openly flirts with him. Taking advantage of Anne and Charles being away on vacation for a few days, he invites Angela to his apartment and thinks the affair will be a one-off. Or so he believes, since the young woman keeps contacting him and calling his home. He tries to make the situation clear by telling her that he does not want an ongoing relationship and that he loves his wife. To no avail: she even moves into his building and gets hired as Charles’s babysitter. At Anne’s insistence—she has discovered the affair—Julien takes Angela to the construction site of his future apartment to make her understand that she must leave him in peace. But the discussion goes badly: the young woman attacks him and explains that his debt-collection agency drove her boyfriend to ruin, to the point that he had an accident on a motorcycle and was left paralyzed. After a brief lull, Angela tries to hit him with a shovel, but Julien stops her, takes the shovel, and knocks her unconscious. Thinking he has killed her, he hides her body inside a thick section of wall in the apartment. He goes home to wash and change, then returns to the construction site, only to discover that the hollow in the wall has been sealed off with panels. By the time Julien and his family have moved into the new apartment, they think they are safe, but anonymous, silent phone calls disturb the couple’s peace, already shaken by his infidelity. Trapped by Angela’s ex-husband, Julien decides to confess to his wife that he killed the young woman and hid her body inside the wall. He tears the wall down to prove to Anne that he is not lying. But the body is not there, and Anne decides to leave her husband with Charles, no longer believing him. The next day, Julien goes to his office and is summoned to his boss’s office, where he comes face to face with... Angela, whom he thought was dead. She had only been knocked unconscious by the shovel and had survived thanks to a construction-site worker, though she was injured, including an injury to her neck. In light of these facts and other stories, some of them lies, Julien is fired. Looking out the window, he sees one last time the woman who has made his life a misery, sitting at the same table on the café terrace. Angela had been carrying out her revenge from the very beginning. The final scene shows Angela sitting at a table, removing her neck brace and looking at the window of Julien’s former office.
